Laghunia, the Human Sorceress

(A monograph by Professor Lystulliv, from the University of Al-Drifa)

Some ill-minded people may speculate how an Elf lecturer can find any interests surrounding a Human sorcerer. My answer is because science knows no race! There is also no relation between my interest for Laghunia and this portrait of her I have on my desk, voluptuously draped in her crimson dress.

This very interesting young lady seems to come out of nowhere; she has neither any known family nor birthplace. In fact, you can find twenty villages in Ganareth that claim the privilege of being her birthplace.

She had an uneventful life until she was eighteen, when she expressed her desire to learn about the Dark Arts instead of being a good housewife, like her father wanted her to. This was the first time she had shown her talents; with a simple, though quite ordinary wand, she paralyzed the man and made him mute for two hours. Then, he was forced to admit her daughter had some talent.

So he let her go, and the world became her classroom. She increased her skills with the help of many sorcerers, but she only reached the top of her craft when she met Skaarelius the Immortal, who had heard about her. Skaarelius, who was still very fit despite his thousands of years (the good thing when you are immortal, is that you can cut down on clothes expenses), was quite in the mood to murmur sweet nothings to her, but she abruptly turned him down, saying she was waiting for somebody exceptional. Skaarelius was very upset, as you can imagine.

Yet he chose to forget her harsh words and to remember only her exceptional skills. He taught her everything he knew. This is how Laghunia became the Orc Killer, relentless and aggressive. Other than the spells and potions she made "for" her enemies, she had also invented a recipe that kept her skin soft and her legs strong. But this potion had a side-effect on memory: Laghunia lost a rather high number of magic cauldrons, fantastic wands and other items throughout the country. And since she forgot the formulae needed to use them, I advise you to be very careful if you discover one of these.

Nobody knows if she is still alive, after all this time. People sometimes say they saw a very pretty woman dressed in a crimson robe, with fire eyes and a sad smile.

If somebody knows where she lives, I’m interested. For scientific reasons, of course.
