Lyselliac, the High Elf Enchanter
(By Quilicin, disciple of bard Circeliane, the discoverer of ancient texts).
Lyselliac, the High Elf, lived throughout the era of the first Elven rule. She had played an important part in the war against the Dragons, but magic is not what it used to be, despite the high level of knowledge and wisdom that it was synonymous to.
Lyselliac and Aleanek the Enchanter, son of Gothar, met during one of their many journeys. Lyselliac was searching for ways to recover the magic powers of the past. She was still young, according to High Elf standards, and after careful questioning, Aleanek decided to take care of her and to teach her the art of enchantment. She first learned to enchant small objects, then animals. After some time, she was able to control them.
After many years (when Lyselliac went back to the forest of Dorindrù) her people were in great danger. A band of Orcs were invading the region, plundering and killing everyone and every[b]thing they could. The Orcs were extraordinarily ferocious; they had the corpses of their victims hung from trees, and the air had become putrid and foul. Little by little, the forest seemed to give way to the darkness.
After the sun had set, Lyselliac began to call upon powerful incantations in her native tongue. The Orcs sleeping in the forest awoke suddenly, their bodies began to contort in seemingly impossible ways as they held their scarred heads in their hands. Lyselliac’s voice echoed in the night, along with the Orcs’ screams. A battle was raging in their heads, and they had no control over it. Lyselliac’s voice lead them out of the forest, and all the Orcs felt the urge to blame the one who sent them to Dorindrù for their sufferings and to pay him back.
For two days, Lyselliac remained chanting in the forest. She enchanted the Orcs to turn them back against their master, and they did it. When she finally stopped, the Orcs started to wonder away, with vacant eyes. Their brains were devastated by so many spells and enchantments. Lyselliac got a great reputation from this triumph.
This was one of her high deeds, but there was much more after that. She took an active part in the construction of Mana fountains in Southern Ganareth. It is because of her work that magic is back on Ganreth today. There is a large amount of mystery surrounding her life, but we know for sure that she enchanted many objects in order to store the teachings of her master Aleanek. The most known among these objects is most notably a ring she used to wear, which gave her enchantments much more of a powerful effect. She used to give one to each of her apprentices when they had completed their training.
