The Illusionist:
This class is very different from the other spell casting classes as it is focused on mind control and controlling aggressiveness. Illusionists have a full set of powerful spells for incapacitating the enemy. However, they have reduced offensive potential compared to other spell casting classes. As such, an Illusionist will have a rather specialized role within a group. An Illusionist will be most appreciated for his/her management abilities as he/she will be able to change the course of a battle, and bring victory when none was possible before. Illusionists will however, fight badly when dealing with wizards and their area effect spells. The Illusionist aims at controlling a fight from beginning to end. He/She will have a lot on his/her hands and has several spells that can be used to help others; however, Illusionists won’t be able to deal significant damage by themselves.
The first path is linked to mind control. The Illusionist will be able to use several effects to put one or several targets to sleep, silence them or to inflict small amounts of damage. Later on, he/she will be able to create illusions, to stun one or several targets, or to improve or decrease the abilities of friends and foes. Finally, he/she will be able to create duplicates of himself/herself and his/her group members, spreading total confusion on the battlefield.
The second path is dedicated to elemental control which allows an Illusionist to conjure several beings and gain a little autonomy. Thus, he/she may conjure a golem or a nicktha as a familiar or summon fire elementals to attack his/her target. This path also offers more brutal possibilities; as he/she will be able to immobilize an adversary or to invoke strong winds, which will spread confusion or repel opponents. Other spells allow Illusionists to greatly improve their group’s Mana regeneration rate, or increase their resistance to magic. Finally, the Illusionist will be able to isolate himself/herself within the eye of a storm which damages and knocks back everything that surrounds him/her.
An Illusionist’s expert abilities will improve his/her training with all possible forms of magic: regeneration, recalling familiars and the speed of incantations. He/She will also become proficient at wielding rods, wands, and will become especially resistant to magic.
Illusionists will encounter some difficulties when fighting alone but will be very hard to beat. Their controlling abilities allow them to quickly neutralize all forms of aggression, compensating for their lack of effective combat abilities. An Illusionist will be a key element of his/her group and will be able to replace a secondary healer or fighter, by bringing important safety to the group. The Illusionist is a strategic and rather complex class with a great number of situational techniques that may backfire on the caster.
