Dwarf

Tell me a story

  • "Mommy, mommy, tell me about these small people once more!"
  • "Who, darking? There are many. Do you mean Gnomes, the ones that swim?"
  • "No mommy no, not these ones, I already know them. I mean the ones who always look angry."
  • "Ah! You mean the Dwarves! But I already told you many things about them last night"
  • "Yes, yes I now! But I like them most!"
  • "But after that, promise me you’ll sleep like a good boy? Mommy has a lot of work to do, you know."
  • "I promise, mommy!"
  • "So here is the story of the Dwarves, my darling, listen carefully... Dwarves are among the smallest races, between 1.20m and 1.40m tall. They are both small and yet large, which often makes it hard to tell males from females. But with a bit of practice, you don’t hesitate anymore: females have a lot more taste when they dress. Did you ever notice that, darling?"
  • "No mommy, but I’ll pay attention to it next time, I promise! Now please go on!"
  • "They often live in groups, almost exclusively composed of Dwarves, and hide inside the mountains created by their father Agnar. They developed the art of blacksmithing; this art saved the Alliance during countless battles to this day. Also, they are not afraid to die: they stand at the front-lines on battlefields, and they are the last to leave it. And many of them bring Orc and Troll heads back home as trophies!"
  • "What’s death, mommy?"
  • "Do you want to hear the story, or to know about death?!"
  • "The story! The story!"
  • "So where was I..? Ah yes, battlefields! Let’s add that Immortals taught them many things, and made these people even stronger: Circéliane the Bard, Jezaraël the Thief, Guerhoan the Cleric and Arkorak the Warrior(1) came to them and taught them everything."
  • "Everything, mommy?"
  • "Their teachings, darling. The Immortals Teachings. Each of them advocates a philosophy about life that can more or leas lead them to turn away from their god, and can lead them to worship another one: some remained true to Agnar, others worship Ysatis, Hel or Calder. The Immortals’ Teachings can be harmful to gods, since their worshipers are now mixed and differently spread."
  • "And is it a danger for us, mommy?"
  • "No my dear, only the gods have this problem, don’t worry. That’s the end of the story for tonight, now sleep."
  • "But I’m afraid when it’s dark..."
  • "Don’t worry, Dragoon is watching over you. Mommy will go hunting, and maybe you will have some Dwarf for breakfast tomorrow. You will see the difference of taste by yourself, my little dragon dear. Good night!"
  • "Good night, mommy."

Way of life:

Dwarves are like the mountains they live in: proud and strong, fierce and resilient. So stubborn they sometimes behave irrationally. They fought against all odds during the War and never lost their faith despite the sacrifice of thousands of Mammals to Dragoon. They realized that death was only a stage of life, and they knew that the Dragons would pay for their misunderstanding of this cycle that binds all things together.

Their very strong relation with Agnar is highlighted in the way they build their houses: their traditional villages are made of stone buildings of rough and sturdy architecture, with steep roofs that prevent snow from accumulating.

Protecting divinity: Agnar

Divine factions:

Every inhabitant of Ganareth, either Dark or Light, owns a way of thinking, of seeing the world, that comes from the race. When someone chooses to follow an Immortals teachings, it alters the follower’s perception of things, sometimes very slightly, sometimes with such an impact that the protecting god is completely estranged. The follower may then worship another god.
