Welcome to the SOTM CLan Thread. Shade of the moon is a multi gaming clan that finds it's roots in the now cancelled Dragon empires. For the past 3 years SOTM spread into various games and is active in most of them.

More you may find on our site, or may not ;)

lol SotM coming to DnL now?
great :D

After DE gone, DnL seems to be the next logical choice for SOTM as multigaming clan :)

hello dhirmadi, supersam and sotm
nice to see some friendly people again

Demagogue

I love it when old friends get together...roar!

Seriously though, nice to see two clans set to enter DnL who I know are very capable in terms of organisation and roleplaying. Not forgetting some decent ideas regarding game development you all seem to produce. Ok I admit that 90% of Supersam's ideas are irrelevant and occasionally twisted to the point of sickness.....well different anyway (a fine fine word!), the 10% which arent are usually real gems.

dhirmadi
10-09-2004, 06:56 PM
indeed true... and it is the gems that will make any game worth while playing :)

no one realy knows what spam is, its like the highest form of mystery meat.

or its just a useless post on a thread to boost ones post count.

in either case this is no way spam, this is more of a useless waste of typing, and smileys.

My question actually was if the client was already distributed and ppl were already playing. The faq states that beta already started - heck, the DE beta also had already 'started' and there were no ppl whatsoever playing because there was not client/server to do so.
But that might just be the wrong place to ask. I'll check out the game forums...

so, where is SOTM now. since there is so little post here? we're all busy playing some other games obviously :) never the less SotM will take part in both SoG and DnL and will attempt to grow again to a decent size inside this one game, like we done in others.

Beeing around for over 4 years now, obviously this guild has undergone change, like most of us do. the core idea still does stay the same however. We're casual gamers looking for group play, some social interaction, distraction from our jobs and in general a relaxed time with like minded people.

In game, we are probabbly going to follow neutra for the most of it and shall see where we form our home town :)

dhirmadi
10-22-2005, 12:39 PM
a small update on progress, sotm keeps its growth in other games like WoW and is now starting to gear up for SoG. While not all members will move over we will again be able to offer a solid core of people that support the guild and allow us to start with a solid fundament here in SoG/DnL.

Now what can you expect from a guild like this? We offer solid presence at moderate times, as we're all casual gamers. the main focus is on supporting eachother and playin in groups. For this purpose we will offer both forums and a teamspeak server.

What do we expect of our members? Honesty, Honor and a light for of interest. There will not be any MUST and NEED, still it is appreciated if you join us only really then when you are interested in building something up.

watch out for more announcements here on the thread about forums and other topics.

here an extract from our guild background :)

The first sword

No item is more loved and feared, takes more lives and saves at least the same amount than the sword. It is the symbol of men and of air, of war and of justice. Hence it is a very common tool to install with magic. In all my life I have seen, what do I know, 20 different kinds of spells on swords.
Glowing, burning, flying, all cutting, screaming, singing the clans anthem backwards in an unsettling low voice, talking, and hurting beings things that cannot be hurt by normal weapons. And I am certain that there are countless more out there. One of them I list here; the First Sword.

It was on a rainy evening when I found myself in an Inn with too little crowd to entertain and too much money in my wallet to try. There I met a very old man called Willfried, Willfried the Smith. Willfried wasn’t of the brightest kind, a good-humoured towns fellow with the horizon two miles further up the street. We talked about the small things in life and I had a good time letting him hear how it’s done ‘out there’. I amazed him time and time again. But late in the evening he leaned over to me, looking about whether anyone was listening and muttered, “Now it’s me turn, to surprise ye”. Have a question which shut’m up. Makes all go silent. Question is,” He paused for dramatic effect “Whose got the first sword?”
“No one, I guess. Rusted away centuries ago. Came here with the crossing.”
He shook his head. And then he told me the story about the first sword.
I’ll take the artistic liberty to jot down my own version of the legend, since Willfried included some unnecessary details like the daily routine of his great-great-great-great grandfather.

The first sword ever made was created not made by a smith, as odd as it may seem, but by a priest.
He observed his people bickering about with other tribes (yes, tribes.
That’s about the same as clans, but with less clothing) and banging each other heads with clubs. The priest despaired at this crude form of warfare. This way his people could never dominate the others and he would never be able to spread his gospel, so he sought help from his gods.
And the gods answered, they sent him, wouldn’t you know, on a quest. He wandered off to some high mountain, climbed it, went inside it’s deepest cave, crawled down to the bottom of it, found a lake and swam to the bottom of that lake where he found a door which lead him into a deep forest (hang on, almost done) which he crossed until he arrived on a wide field of heather.
On that heather field he found a smithy. Yes, a smithy. A small cottage with a forge, anvil, some hammers and a couple of iron ingots. In Willfrieds version there are a couple of tests on the way that smithy to, which are suppose to test the priest’s virtues. But I like to collect legends, not some madman’s stories about an old wizard-priest battling demons of pure night and fire at the bottom of a lake, dying and being reborn and having drinking constests with gods.
Anyway, I digress. The priest got to work made the sword.
The fire of the forge burned away his clothes and scorched his flesh.
His hand turned to sweat, turned to blisters, turned to blood.
The heat purified the metal and the flesh together.
The priest made the sword.
For four days he did not eat, did not sleep, did not speak. (I presume that he chanted away all the time, but that doesn’t count as speaking, that’s chanting.)
And his the???? gods guided his hands.
On the morning of the fifth day it was done. That same day a large group of enemy tribals arrived and wanted to have the sword. So the priest fought them. One priest with a sword against ten, twenty, maybe thirty mighty warriors with clubs.
The fight was pretty short. Casualties: one old priest who hadn’t eaten for four days, wore no armour and held a weapon he couldn’t handle. But before he died he cast the sword into the sky and to his honour the gods turned the first sword into a star sign called ‘the first sword’. The end.
Moral?
Yes, run faster, hit harder and drink less.
But Willfried gave a small epilogue to this tale. He said that the gods did indeed craft that star sign, but they didn’t require the actual sword for that. They looked at the sword, but they didn’t use it. It fell down to the ground again and was picked up by someone. And it inspired smiths to make more swords. And those swords again inspired other to make swords. And so the swords spread all over the place until it was and probably still is the most used weapon in Fortitude. And due to its excellent craftsmanship the sword still exists. And because it was always used as an exemplary item rather than a weapon it is still in excellent shape. No dents, no corrosions, no fractures. And this item is now owned by Shade of the Moon clan. And every of their swords is based on that first sword. Every smith studies that sword for at least a year and creates ten swords in that fashion. If he has mastered the technique he may call himself a true weapon smith.
Of course there are plenty of clans and people who claim to be the best weapon smiths, but the Shade of the Moon clan claims with all right to be the one clan who bases all its swords on the first sword.
The speciality about those swords is the so-called layer technique. The first sword wasn’t crafted out of hammering one staff into a blade. Rather layers of metal where forged onto each other, hammered thin and layered again and again. Some say that a blade from the clan consists of about 200 layers! And if that is done well it allows the smith to make a sword that is lighter, sharper and harder than common swords. Mind you, not every sword in the clan is made that way. It’s a time consuming business, not to mention the money you pay for it. But those who are also make fantastic material for enchanted weapons.
The properties of the first sword remain a mystery. Some say it is unbreakable, some claim it can cut through anything with ease. Others claim that it make him who wears it the best fighter in the world. Certainly it must be a powerful item. But to now it is still not being used.
Why?
I wouldn’t know, maybe because the only person who did wield it died in an instant. I guess that’s kind of a bad start for a sword, don’t you think?
