Well, they did note down this at the FAQ:

Will my Beta Testing Character be compatible with the final Game Release?

Nope, but who knows?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

· Is there any advantage to become a Beta Tester?

As a Beta Tester, you are privileged. Explore the game before anyone else, give your comments and remarks, even give your name – under Administrator acceptance – to the newly discovered sites.

This has good and bad sides, there will be something special for beta testers (giving your name to sites) but we probably wont be able to get our beta avatar into gold, which sucks :casstet:

It's just fair for everyone. It's not your personal take off..

Not realy, when i betatest, i do alot of work... i fill out bug reports, stuff like that. Usually, betas are not much "fun", more a lot of work... and there can be really annoying bugs which spoil all the fun that u "could" have.

That's why i believe, that as a sort of "thank you", its fair to let people have their beta account in gold, with all the skill and money that they earned so far.

As you use word "working" on beta is totally wrong, you don't work in beta. You have priviledge of trying game before others. Also you might get reputation and such in community wich might help you when it does go gold. Also there isn't sayed that your character would be deleted. Most characters will be but some might be kept if they really have done great work. You don't have to play the beta, but I surely do hope that you will if you are selected. There is many advantages being beta tester, if you have been beta tester before and played game after testing, you should really understand this.

eg0, this is probably a very subjective discussion. you feel it is a privilege to be a beta tester. I feel that too, but if you take a clear look at the advantages and disadvantages, i must say that there are more disadvantages in being a beta tester (i am not talking about being a real beta tester, who actually reports every bug and exploit he/she finds).

The last few games i beta tested decided to give all beta testers their character wuth skill and money back at gold. I understand that with this game it will suck for a new player if he notices that the enbtire world is split up already, but because of the probably few beta testers, and the massive world, i dont think that thats gonna be a problem. I actually dont see the problem in giving beta testers their chars back for Gold as a thank you for helping us with the game..

I feel that thats what a beta test is about... to test the game and help with the development... i think people who heavily participate in this should be rewarded. Now i know that the developers didnt totally say NO against this idea:

Will my Beta Testing Character be compatible with the final Game Release?

Nope, but who knows?

So I hope that they will change that thingy... dont you?

I agree with both ego and cd on this one. It is a privilege to beta test, but it should also come with some long term benefits. Not a whole lot but something. Beta testing isn't all fun and games. Once you get over the initial impact from the graphics or "eye candy" if you will, it can be quite aggravating to play amidst a wide array of bugs and exploits. I am no expert on the subject and have only beta'd a couple of games but I figure if you've beta'd one, you've pretty much got a grasp on it.
At any rate, I'll be happy either way so long as the game meets my expectations which I have tried to keep at reasonable levels. I hope to be among the beta testers if only to get a handle on the interface and familiarize myself with the lay of the land. It matters little to me if the characters carry over. I figure I'll have an advantage just by having already played. If I get in that is. ;)

Hey Incripted you forgot the 8th question, you ask a 7th and a 9th but no 8th :/

I agree with Delta here I have to say.. If you look at the wider picture, you couldnt effectivly test the game without the testers... Rewarding them by keeping their characters seems reasonable to me.. Although im only new so I dont know the structure of the community and the game.

Thanks

EDIT:
No personal flame accepted on these boards. It's clearly stated on forum rules. This is fair warning.

Well, i`m currentlly a beta tester for another online space game(don`t think it`s fair to say the name here) and it`s not as much fun as ppl think it is!
The 1st 3 weeks i coulden`t play it for more than 10 min before it freezed or the server went down!

On the other hand i enjoy sending bug reports and seeing the improvments the developers does!

Just gonna cross my fingers and toes, and hope i get picked for this beta test!

EDIT:
stellazzio, please use your own graphics or forum defaults.

First off all it haven't said you wouldn't get advantages... But what I know at least most of huge games, such as everquest, asheros call, ultima online, etc.. have deleted characters or their skills / items (wich I think will be done.. not whole characters but most of skills and items) so that wouldn't be new... There is always reward on playing beta test, wich I think DnL will have also.. For excample in blizzard's warcraft III beta testers have their own ladder and like 9 of 10 in top 10 (normal ladder) are beta testers. FAQs are updated constantly so that definitely ain't final FAQ. Wouldn't you guys keep it as an advantange for beta testers having own city or something.. or maybe history would be made by active beta testers.. or having private quests.. there is many advantages that are possible and this is what you should understand. Characters ain't the only advantage..

Yes I guess I was a little too hard.I thank you that you relize that the betea testers should get some reward. I was beta testing Dransik for awhile now and finally it's going PTP. In reward they're making a founders program for the beta testers which I think is nice.

p.s there is no suggestion's forum!!

Site feedback is currently deticated for feedback and suggestions. Game suggestion board will be opened as beta is released.

Im split over whither it would be a good or bad thing to keep the charicters, but I think it will be decided based on the level of advantantage that the beta testers woud have over new players who start at gold.

If there is a huge exploit which would make beta players extreamly wealthy, or give them a huge amount of skill then they would not be carried over, but if they wernt that far ahead then there is always a chance.

Also another advantage that you get from beta testing is a knowledge of the game, and therefor if it was a restart after gold, beta testers still have a very clear advantage from the start anyway.

CommanderDelta

yeh, of course, that u always get for beta testing.

BTW eg0, i'm oretty sure that betatesters for AC2 and EQ2 got their account from beta to gold. but thats not the issue... i mean, if all beta testers get their own city then im dif NOT complaining :)

That is the main advantange that I think.. You have the knowledge so you can basicially do 'perfect' characters and faster than new guys.

Depends, you can learn games fast, I think that thats a very small advantage

This is very important to me and some other gamers.

1. Will there be first person view mode, and will there be mouselook toggle key for easier mouselook for 1st person view?

I hope this is not only 3rd person game...
