if allot of people can play this game.
won't u have LAG, bcus we don't have the same connection!
i noticed that in other online games, u mayhave such a fast connection but it will be cut down by the persone who has a slow connection!
And bcus we are all on the same server what will be the conect speed??

I thought I read in the FAQ that when you have lag the automatic controller or something comes up. This way you don't just stand there while your bodyparts are being chopped of.
Plz correct me if I'm wrong, cauze I don't know for sure

hmm, where did you read this?
All i know is that the servers are on a big backbone, which will reduce the lag. also, because of the balancing and such the lag wont be too bad.

· You talk about an off-line active player mode, how does it work?
The off-line playing mode is as follows:
-The player is not connected: he switched in NPC mode before disconnection ; thanks to a script language, he’ll be able to continue his trade giving higher level players the rights to deliver their skills and also make money while sleeping and only for a limited time.
-The player is linked dead (internet lag): this script will give the opportunity to the player to react according to a comportment chosen by the player for these particular not intended network problems and, may be, not to die stupidly.

meh if we get lots of lag blaim the AOL users. I read somewere that AOL produces like 30% more lag for other players in games :P
~Ice~
03-08-2003, 01:42 PM
it gives 30% more chance of lag!?
~Ice~
03-08-2003, 01:42 PM
hmmm msn probably does too if that is true
~Ice~
03-08-2003, 01:44 PM
if so there should be a popup before you start darkandlight asking you if you'd like to turn AOL or MSN off, so that lag %chance is lowered
Esper
03-08-2003, 01:46 PM
yep 30% and oh i dont think you should triple post like that.
oh and the game iz online so turning AOL off wouldn't work because you wouldn't be able to play

First off, no one in their right mind would keep aol online and play an online game at the same time. And as for the lag issue, most mmrpg experience lag no matter how good of a system it is. And as this being a beta, I'm sure there may be more lag than prefferred. However, the developers could take precautionary matters for if a player for instance experiences lag for more than 3 seconds, they will automatically be disconnected from the game as a convenience for the player to not die or lose items. So you would in turn experience lag, but the developers in turn would look out for your own benefit and have an automatic boot from the system. Which would make people maybe more frustrated with lag, but in the long run happier b/c if they do in fact experience lag they can consider themselves at a safe risk.

Yeh, and these scripts they created might actually help some :)

This is my first time here so im probably overstepping since i don't know much about the game. But from recent experiences logging characters out in 3 seconds creates problems. Mostly because if you go out and fight a hard group of npcs kill one take the loot and pull your internet connection your out in 3 seconds. There is a game that has something like this called, "The Realm" and the people who pull the internet connections are called pluggers. It gets annoying pvping in an online gmae where they can just pull their connection if they get low on hp. Also, with most 56k users you dial up into a server which is on (most likely) somewhere around a T3. Well, I'm hoping to learn more about this game.
ok... well then go and read the .com site

i like the idea that they have of disconecting the person when there is a big time lag
Kormath
03-09-2003, 10:46 AM
yea, thats how u get rid of the lagging peeps.
but my guess is that allot of people have LAG at one moment!!!!
so if there PC is doing some strange things for about 5 sec and u get LAG u will be dissconected!
i talk out of Experiance.
if i play online i have a PING of about 50 or Lower!( 25-10)
BUt there will be a guy that has a PING of 300 that just messees the entire game up.
and i will have LAG!
so i think LAG WILL be very common in this game( if allot of peeps play this game )!
Good point Kormath. I totally forgot about how the other individual players affect the whole. Maybe then there should be a ping of 100- as mandatory to log on so they don't intefere with other paying customers.
Kormath
03-09-2003, 10:53 AM
ok, BUT what if some player buy this game and then CAN'T play this game bcus they have a High ping.
they payed the entire month! Payed the Game!
but can't play. what happens then.
i doubt it that he gets his money back!!!
i some times have a ping of 150 bcus my inter provider is slow!
Well I'm just trying to find that happy medium. Maybe in fact a lot of lag will be endured because of just the sheer details of the game, that even cat 5's have trouble carrying so much information. I was just giving examples of what could be done if lag did become a major issue.
Kormath
03-09-2003, 10:58 AM
yea, and i'm giving examples how LAG can be a problem!
and lets hope that when the game come's out we have clear awsner about the LAG issue!
Thank goodness I'm not gonna be the lag fixer upper lol

In my little MMORPG experience I have noticed a few things about lag.
1) When someone lags it does not cuase another to lag but it will alter how the lagged person moves. I laggef person tends to appear in on place but actually be in another. Thier slower connection makes you wait to get their locationwhile they already are there.
2) More people=more lag. The more information there is the harder it is for your connection/CPU to keep up.
3) I don't think they mean they will intentionally drop someone if they are lagging. Instead I think they mean that when someone has crossed a certain threshold and no longer maintains a signal to a sever they have "link death". A script system is a great idea because noones connection is always perfect.
4) When losts of people go LD it usually means a. there are just too many people in an area doing too many things or a router or sever or something has gone down affection only some of the users of the game.
