Welcome to Wish Refugees, a light side guild. As the name implies, we particularly welcome those members of the Wish community who are having to find a new home. The guild is a new concept and will no doubt evolve as time goes by and members join. The main concepts of the guild are honour and fellowship both to other guild members and the wider light (and dark!) communuty. If this sounds like it might suit you, come along and say hello.

To join the guild go here: http://www.darkandlight.net/forums/clans.php?do=view&clanid=147 and click on "join"

To find the guild forum on the DnL pages, go here: http://www.darkandlight.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=207

To find the guild forum at the MMORPG Tavern go here: http://mmorpgtavern.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewforum.php?f=19

an interesting concept, you guys actually going to use the name Wish Refugees in game? Certainly makes sense - there are a lot of refugees around. Best of luck to you! And sorry about wish, it was a shame to see that happen.

Cheers

Aye, Wish refugees will be the in-game name. The idea is to keep a little of the spirit of Wish alive - as well as avoiding boring the rest of you with our moaning about Wish's cancellation :D

Hey guys, I am a Wish refugee myself. Good way to stay in contact, but you may want to re-think the name and come up with an rp background. I am trying to set up the guild Order of the Blue Light (an allusion to the Blue Order, which I was a part of in Wish), and I am working on getting through all of the backstory for this game so that I can really create a good niche in the world for my guild. Remember, Wish did a really good job of purposefully immersing us in Ganedan, we wouldn't want to just stick out in some other world like a sore thumb because we are completly not RP.

Yes, this will be a guild in-game as well as here on the boards. I agree that "Wish Refugees" may not be the most suitable name for a guild and am certainly open to suggestions. Plan A was to call the guild "Riders of the Wind" but that depends on Riders keeping us in the fold now they have moved on to EQ2. Well post your suggestions here and we'll have a think about it....

On the contrary, we welcome input from all sides. To honour ones enemy is as important as to honour ones allies. :)

Riders of the Wind would work nicely with the lore of Ganareth provided your guild are worshippers of Zephyr (http://www.darkandlight.net/article.php3?id_article=176).

Thanks for all the best wishes guys, I must say there have been many nice comments on these community boards welcoming those of us rudely booted from the Wish beta. I am sure many "Wish Refugees" will be happy here because, despite a very different feel to the game, as much thought has gone into the design here as that done by MR. As to selecting a guild deity that will depend on what characters and theme the members wish to follow once things settle down a bit. My own preference is for crafting and exploration as our core competancies but let's wait and see what others think before we commit ourselves to a mythos :)

I was thinking that maybe "Wish" wasn't such a good title for in game. So maybe ig you/we (if I am accepted into the guild ;) ) should be named after the lands of wish i.e. Ganedian Refugees, this would give a great backstory of "peoples from a far and distant land that had to run from their homes to here because of an evil presence that sucked the land into a deep crevace. Though hopefull of a return to thier old home seems to be not so hopefull after all." Just my 2 coins in the pot. Hate me love me tell me to go somewhere else and play with my imaginary friends if you want, doesn't matter they like me better anyway. Ha Ha

Hello everyone. Lughmyrden, sounds like a good idea any idea about how to make the back-story sound good?

Lughmyrden
01-14-2005, 11:58 PM
Well I'm not really that creative. The last Idea I had was about the first one I've had in the last couple of days. I could write a three or four page backstory to go along that line, but to tell ya the truth "I ain't to bright ova heya." ;).... Or (brainstorms are here for me today) why not take some suggestions on some implements of the back story and kinda run with some sorta goal in mind.
Like:
A Giant Dog Demon was chasing down the last of the certain peoples that could prevent him from taking over the universe, found them in this land (Wish) and destroyed everything in sight. Maybe some GM's might incorperate this new bi-lateral backstory line.

Or:
Some of the Refugee's toiled with the dark side to much and just demolished the whole place and the only one's left were these Light sided refugee's.

I figure you all can be creative enough to make my miserable ramblings just a joke on the bottom of an out house.

Happily of Service,
Lughmyrden

Assuming you have read through the history of the world yet, have any of you had thoughts about the guild being aligned to a particular god or whether we should have another theme to the guild with regard to our intentions?

Lord Rufus

MMORPGTavern.com have been kind enough to provide us with a forum for the guild - please pop along to http://mmorpgtavern.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewforum.php?f=19 and register. I was hoping that they would make us one here but they don't seem to be making new guild boards and I haven't had any reply to my requests to create one...

Hi, only played wish for 4-5 days but i consider myself a wish refugee too. As for the name part, i kinda like it. As for the rp background part I haven't read the DnL lore yet but i bet we could fit wish in there as some distand land and that we are really refugees from it :)

Lord Rufus
01-16-2005, 12:38 PM
Well now we are ten, the guild is slowly growing as more refugees drift in, cold and hungry to shelter from the storms that wrecked our homelands. Along with the other Riders, I was from Withrik and Grymm, although I ventured quite widely in the lands, even visiting the elven lands for the final cataclysmic battles.

I know it's a pain asking you to come and register on another board but there isn't really the flexibility here to manage the guild properly with only a single thread or else using a geneal area. It looks like the guild forums are no longer administered as some haven't been used since 2003 and no new ones have been created recently, making it seem unlikely that we will get one here.

Guiness of the MMORPG Tavern kindly created a guild board for us on his new website where we can post away to our hearts content on all manner of topics. So please come along and register so that we can get this guild together properly!

The link direct to the forum is http://mmorpgtavern.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewforum.php?f=19 after which you just click on "register" and put in a few details. So come along and say hi if you haven't already.

Welcome all. It's great to have somewhere we can come and moan about Wish being cancelled without all the DnL oldtimers getting annoyed with us :). My desktop wallpaper is still the Wish one and the map of the beta area is still on the wall next to the PC *sigh*. And I finally got round to unintalling Wish from the PC yesterday.

I was there such a short time but I was really enjoying the Live Content, especially around Withrik & Grymm. The levelling concept in DnL seems to be the one thing that i putting a lot of people off but it looks rather like it won't be all that hard to hit level 60 at which point you will be maxed so maybe it won't be too difficult. I forsee that I will definitely be back in the UO mould of running multiple characters as the specialisations might be quite specific, preventing Rufus from crafting as well as mage-ing.

Xadrian
01-18-2005, 09:20 AM
Aye, I actually still have the Wish client installed. It's sinking in (very slowly) that all that data is pretty much worthless without a server.

Anyway, I found Wish and DnL on the same exact day. Wish had an open beta sign-up at the time, so I hopped on over there. Got accepted several weeks early, and was hooked (even without the live content). Once LC hit, I couldn't stop playing. I lived in the Southdowns area, so I participated heavily in the Legion of the Rose quests, fighting off the undead infestations in Tearwood.

Although I prefer skill-based systems, I think DnL offers a lot of unique features and a truly immersive world that will hook me just as much as Wish did. I haven't settled in and figured out quite what kind of character I'd like to play, but exploring has ALWAYS been my absolute most favorite thing to do in any game. I'm excited that there is a viable exploration skill-path, and I look forward to discovering everything it has to offer. :)

Lord Rufus
01-18-2005, 10:24 AM
The skill system is a little odd but the levelling basically seems to provide skill ponts that you will spend on abilities so it's a kind of combination between levelling and skillpoints. You also have two axes to develop your character on, combat and social so to be completely maxed, you need to be 60/60 which will be a bit of a challenge but will mean that you will have to try two different styles to really advance. It all sounds a bit hard to get my head round right now but it seems to have potential.

Good, I'm not the only one who has not uninstalled WISH. Every time I try to uninstall it, I keep thinking, "No, I'll leave it here in case the game comes back."
Perhaps I am living in denial. I keep having dreams where I suddenly become enormously wealthy and I purchase MR in order to revive WISH. The dreams usually involve buying a Cray to run it on too.

Ramini

heh, I also still have the wish wallpaper. Also the wish client.... Took a bit of a leap when I deleted the shortcut on my desktop though *also in denial*
I'm starting to break down I fear, now 8 days without an MMORPG..... that makes 15 in the last 2-3 years.
Starting to treat cs:s as an MMO now though but the realisation that I can't loot my kills is sinking in :(

I have the map that was released just before beta 2 opened as my wallpaper. Was really help to have that on my second monitor. To pass the time, I have renewed my AC2 subscription, but after WISH, it seems bland. Well, we will see if the upcoming expansion and the new distribution deal with Sony bring the population back up to make it fun again. Other than that, I am just waiting for DnL.

Wish's gone *tearful look*

I uninstalled the client a while back outta hate, but I still check the MR homepage everyday in hopes of a very weird April-Fools kinda joke :(...

... Wish's gone...

... Man... It just hit me again :(

I got attracted to DnL after seeing it on the Wish.Stratics homepage, and it had so much that reminded me of Wish that I joined immediately, although only became active recently...

... For my 2c worth I love the name "Ganedan Refugees", and is it me or do Ganedan and Ganereth sound a bit similar? Hmmmmm ^^

Oh, and in game my name was Kokiri or KokiriChild!

Welcome to the guild, you are now officially accepted. I finally changed my screensaver from the Wish one to the rather nice DnL one with the moody-looking dark elf and the mountain scene. I thought it was about time I started looking forward rather than moping. I still have the beta map on the wall though - I guess that'll stay there until DnL publish something to replace it with...

If the entrance qualification is a map of Ganedan on the wall and on the PC, then I pass with flying colours (but I will replace it with a map of Ganareth as soon as it becomes available...us obsessives need something to cling on to).

And finally once you've settled in see go and read the "Guild Name" thread and ponder the name of the guild you'd like to be part of in-game...

Sventer, welcome to the guild. I know what you mean, I was mining on the shore way down south (what was that town called again?) when someone passed the news on to me. I immediately logged on Rufus so I could spend my last few hours with the other members of my guild and so we took part in the final parade of horrors where the GM brought out all the monsters they had planned for the future. Many of those were absoloutely awsome - I took some screenies but lost them when I un-installed Wish - doh! The giants were awsome, I was literally at ankle-height :)

If they cancelled DnL I'd be sad but we were actually IN Wish, it was close enough to touch, practically good enough to release comercially. Like most people here, I was pretty miserable when they pulled the plug :(

Sventer

I like what they did though.. stress test early to make sure your system works out.. Atleast that's my thought on why they went under is some hardware/deep core coding problem that they found only from stress testing. Hopefully it wasn't funding issues =\
