About Us: Who we are
Throughout the years we have seen many changes. Some good some not so good. Many people have found a new home in our House, and some have left.
One thing is static, and that is the lasting friendships and memories that all have gained for their time with us. This has been built on trust, honesty, honor and friendship.
We have changed many games over the years, yet we still find a way to have fun with each other. Whether it is on Dark Age of Camelot or NeoPets, we all find time to sit back and relax.
Names have changed, some of us have had kids, while others have celebrated their 25th anniversary. Yet we have all found a safe place to come back to, to talk and even console in one another.
Every person that have ever spent some time in the house has found lasting memories that we all shall always cherish throughout time.
House Andronnai of Drow... Where we came from
House Andronnai started out as a small guild that was formed many many years ago by a group of kids that formed their own chosen family as a way for support, friendship and fun. One thing that all had in common was a newer game called Dungeons and Dragons. It was in its first edition yet, and many of the guide books were still paperbacked booklets that looked like they were printed out on a copier and stapled together.
Thirteen kids ranging from the age of 11 to 14 got together. Who was the first one that bought the game, or even suggested it, we don't remember. But we do remember playing it in the courtyard hallway outside the school during class break in 1979. For a start in Catholic school, it was quite a beginning, even at the displeasure of the Sisters.
After some time, it was realized that we all really loved the game, bought more of the modules and eventually some of the first hardback books. This was our way of escape from the problems of childhood. It was fun and we could live out our dreams in our games, live adventures and let good win over evil.
In 1981 we started to go to AD&D Tournaments. TSR, Gary Gygax's publishing company started to host these as well. We sighed up as a guild and went to our first one. There was only one problem we faced. What would we call ourselves? Many names were given, one was even Warriors of The Abyss. Though this was a good name for us to play with, it did not explain who we were. The name Warriors was given by Adrian's mother. This was what she called the basement, which was also Adrian's bedroom, and one of our usual meeting places
Someone ended up suggesting one of my characters names as a guild name, Andronnai Du'Arthernii. A nice ring, but a wee bit long. There was some dispute one time when we met up with another gaming group about a Drow character being played. Since Andronnai was only half Drow, and followed the little known Eilistraee, a good Drow Goddess that lead those that opposed the evil Drow. Eventually Andronnai was allowed. This was the inspiration for the start of House Andronnai. Later that year we registered with TSR and went to our first official game.
New beginnings
Over the years, we moved on to new schools, High School, College and eventually moved away. But this was not the end of our guild. No, it was only the beginning of a new era. During the time that things began to change, as we slowly moved towards adulthood, we found a new medium. Computers!
I was working at a toy store one year for a co-op class, this was one of my favorite jobs I ever held. One day, while stocking the shelves, we got in a box of some new games. I opened them up to put them on the shelves and realized that it was AD&D.. but for the computer! Many of us had computers and have played with them for some time. Several of our parents worked for computer companies, a few for IBM in Southfield Michigan. My Grandfather was one of those people, and my uncle worked for Hewlett Packard. So, of course I was excited and bought all three games they had.
Back then it was easy to crack a game, to see the scripting and how it worked. Even now I still remember the simple one line basic command to pull up the scripting. Oh, those were the days. We talked with other friends, and learned that for half of us, computers and programing was not only fun, but also exciting. Many of us started to learn basic, cobol and many other programing and gaming languages.
From here we learned how to build Mudds and Mush's. This was an exciting new start for us. As we moved away, we could connect to each others computers and still play. Random rollers was our first exciting program. Of course over time, the internet became the World Wide Web, the Direct Dialer Modem was outdated, and NIC cards took their place. Dial up was changed and we entered a new Era for Andronnai.
Andronnai Now
In 1996 Chris sent us a game, I did not end up playing it since I was finishing my school and had a family and work, but did play on many other levels. I ended up meeting my Brother Alex, whom gave me the next game that Chris was working on. The beta had begun. Alex was not only beta but also our inspiration. Here is where the term "Family Game" came from. Our guild was formed and started with Diablo. In 1998 We moved to Diablo II with many thanks to both Alex and Chris. Though I had the game, I did not play often enough, not until my brother strong armed me.
Many of the Blizzard games we played, as they were free to play online, but in time, it began to get boring. Many of the original members have passed on, but in all this time, we found many special people along the way. Or did they find us?
2003 we began to look for a new "family game". Many were tried, researched and played. Everything from already released games to those still in the alpha and beta stages were tried. Many signed up for many betas and others bought quite a few for us to try. A great family effort was put forth to find something that we could all play, share and have fun together. But the stipulations for a game were strict. Most of all was a game that we could play when we had time. Since not all of us could get on at the same time, it was a little difficult. One of the possibilities was Never Winter Nights. This game offered us many new opportunities, but of course, some complaints still lingered. So the search continued, until we found Dark Age of Camelot.
Dark Age of Camelot gave us everything we needed and followed all the guidelines that we set up but for one. It was not free to play on line. However, after playing the game, using the free trial, and the free 30 day disk given in the game, we passed this along to everyone. In time, it was agreed that this would be our new home.
House Andronnai had been through much over the many years, many changes, some sad endings and some wonderful beginnings. All in all we are still a family, not wanting to grow large but staying small so we can all know each other and make new friends along the way.
Dark and Light
Will we move to these strange and dark lands? It would be nice to have another place, a home away from home. Here we gather together and meet our friends and family in our home called The Darkwood. We are not evil, though because of our brethern, we have that stigma of such. Trying to get away from that and from the nature that has been so pushed upon us by our ansesters that were so long ago shunned into the caves of the Underdark, we are here.
We help those that need helping, we give a lending hand, and with the assistance of Ealistree as our guide the Darkwood shall be safe for all deserving creatures.
Where shall tis lead us in the new land? We dont know. We are a family, we are Drow.
