The Water Rats

Brief History:

The Water Rats are a secretive Guild that is rumored to be making preparations for the return of the Dark One. If you wish to learn more and become a member you need to seek out Alisstra in Al’Drifa for further information.

Headquarters: Al'Drifa

Religion: The Water Rats are busy making preparations for the return of the Dark One. Until then the Dark One is not known to outsiders.

Alignments: In general the Alignment of most members tends towards a chaotic nature, although the Leadership of the Guild tends towards a lawful one.

Symbol: The Rat symbolizes wealth, cunning, wisdom, ingenuity, prudence and foresight. The circle stands for a continuous power, and devotion to the Guild, although it is also rumored that the circle in fact represents the moon (prior to its split).

Guild members wear a medallion hung on a silver chained necklace that glows with deep violet light (a dark light) equivalent to that of a torch when worn. The medallion is fashioned of silver and is about 3 centimeters in diameter, and is in the shape of a rat inside a circle.

A Tale of 2 Rats

Have you heard the tale of Cevo and Vesium, the tale of the Two Water Rats? Cevo and Vesium were two poor men living in a town of nobles. They would scrounge around the docks of this Al’Drifa, begging for food, or a spare copper. They became known to the Sailors as the Water Rats.

One dreary evening, a tall dark man wearing a black cloak obscuring his face, approached Cevo and Vesium, and asked if they would join him on his ship.

Cevo asked, "What will we get if we come?"

The dark cloaked man replied "Anything you ask for," with a voice of deep power that you could almost swear originated inside your head.

"What will you want in return?" asked Vesium.

"That we will discuss on my ship, now come, and I will feed you."

Once onboard Vesium and Cevo became wary and uncertain. The ship was composed of wooden planks that appeared to be burnt black as ash. With the movement of the surf the ship groaned as though hundreds of souls were calling out to them. The air smelled of sulfur and rot. Although the vessel seemed otherworldly, the temptation to recieve the gift of anything they asked for was too great.

They entered the captains quarters, and were told to sit down at a table. The cabin was lit only by one candle enough for the water rats to make out pictures of death on the wall. and maps on the table of the whole world. Places that Cevo and Vesium had never heard of before.

”The end of an age is near." The black cloaked man started. "The Dark One is almost free, I am Slevain, second to the Dark Lord, and will grant you two immortality, and power others' can only dream of.”

”W-what, do you want in return?" nervously asked Cevo.

"To lead an army, to conquer the light, and to free the Dark One."

"But why us?" Questioned Vesium.

"The Dark One has chosen the two of you for his own reasons. He has watched you for sometime, now decide quickly, immortatlity, power and all the gold in the world, or death."

"We choose the Dark One" blurted out Cevo, he would rather live, than die.

"Does he speak for the both of you?"

"Y-yes sir, oh Dark Lord sir." replied Vesium.

"Then Cevo I grant you the power of a Warrior," as Slevain pulled out a black sword, "when you swing this sword for our cause, those you kill will have their' souls bound to its blade." Slevain reached out and touched Cevo with his pale white hand and Cevo felt as if molten lava had been powered into his veins as he could feel his soul being pulled out of his body, then he felt the power at his finger tips. "You will be able to summon lighting from the skies and quake the earth where your enemies stand" Continued Slevain.

"Vesium, I give you this staff," Slevain handed the staff two hands taller then Vesium, and black as night, with diamond on the top that had a red flame glowing inside, "You will be able call fire and demons from the ground, and rip the souls out of those that are still living, the dark ones creatures will obey your commands." Slevain reached out with his hand and touched Vesium, his skin felt as if it were on fire, then he could feel his soul being lost. The void was quickly filled with his new power and immortality.

As Vesium grabbed onto the staff the diamond with the red flame seemed to flare so bright, that it hurt his eyes. But he was also looking at Cevo and already becoming jealous of his powers, as he knew Cevo would be jealous of his.

"Now go and create yourselves an army and a place of hallowed ground to be called Namur," Commanded Slevain, "Free the Dark One, and you will have a seat at his table."

Cevo and Vesium were powerful indeed, and took half of the known world, into the guild of The Water Rats. All members of the Water Rats had a distinctive medallion of a rat within a circle of half a hand in diameter. The medallion radiates a deep violet glow.

Alas, Cevo and Vesium became so lost in their' powers that they turned on themselves before reaching the goal assigned to them. Souls were ripped from men, earth quaked, fire grew from the gound and lighting struck. The clash of Cevo and Vesium's power, made all those that carried the Water Rat medallion, perish along with their souls.

It is said that during the depth of the night near the graveyard in the ruins of that old town that Cevo and Vesium called home, you may find the souls of the long dead Water Rats rise from the grave trying to complete the task ordained to them. It is also said that the dark coins they carry may hold some of the power promised to their' founders long before.

Slevain, has approached us again, and wants the Water Rats reborn. If you join us you may be granted a seat at the dark ones table. Now go and bring me 50 dark coins from the distressed undead souls, and you will be on your way to being made eternally a Water Rat.

We as they say the fruit doesn’t fall far from the [wwiiol] tree, and it is especially true in this case… Last month when sent out our mass email notification on the Dark and Light 3CDGAMERS.COM Portal forming some members of the 53rd received this email also due to their correspondence on the site. Amid CRS conspiracy theories (LOL Burma), and a desire to look into something new the guys and gals at the 53rd have decided to join up with TWR in Dark and Light.

With the addition of our brothers in arms from WWII Online we will truly be a force to be reckoned with in the Settlers of Garaneth!

We are also proud to announce that Gilmour will be joining our DnL Leadership, and has already begun work in helping to ensure we are as organized as possible upon release later this month. Gilmour brings a wealth of experience in Guild Leadership from days long ago in UO to present where he serves as the AHC Communications Officer.

The problem in swg for me was that every now and then I wanted to go out and kill stuff, and being dbl master crafter left only bunnies on my kill list. Now i can have the best of both worlds.

I lean more toward adventuring than crafting although, in EQ1 I was a master at many crafts, as I was in WoW so If im on at odd times, I usually craft if others arent on or needing my help.

Yes I think organizing our characters with whats best for the guild is an idea. I have atleast one crafter in almost all of my previous rpg games. I look at it this way.. what will we need the most as we develop the guild.. armor- weapons- (blacksmithy type character or armorer- weapons crafters type people) We will need folks who can create the things we will need immediately and their skills grow along with our needs. In SWG for instance, you might need a guy who could build a house for you.... in UO you had someone in the guild who could create your armor and weapons.. whether they were bows and arrows or swords, Kryss' and shields or helmets. That guildbrother would either provide the goods to the guildmembers in exchange for materials or for free.. or he would give guildmembers half price. We could have an enchanter to embue the weapons with special powers and abilities. Ofcorse this is my opinion only and I'd like you opinions on the matter. I dont want to create a situation where everyone is working so hard at providing the guild with things it needs that those craftsmen dont have time to enjoy their gamelives..on the otherhand if the guild doesNOT prepare itself properly, we lose everything we build to those that do.. a little planning can go a long way- especially in guildwars etc.

You really need to get over to the Guild site  Anyway a really quick reply to the things mentioned above before I dash out the door to work.

The #1 thing you should concern yourself with is having fun! The guild isn’t some institution that needs your time and money to survive. The way we figure it the Guild will do just fine as long and you are having fun.

When you generate your character(s) do so in a fashion that makes you happy. Believe me with 50 other members we will do just fine in covering the bases.

I don’t want the Guild to be Utopia. Instead lets encourage free trade, and the idea of personal success along with that of the groups success. You shouldn’t just be giving your goods and services for free to guild members. In the past we have always worked together to accomplish Guild objectives, but we did this as a volunteer team.

Now in DnL it is my understanding that we will need materials, goods, skills, and money to build and maintain our fortress and or guild hall. In this case we rely on the hype of the activity to carry us through. Nobody wants to be in a Guild without a fortress for example so we plan a “Lets get this sucker built day”, and everybody that participates works towards that goal to speed things up (notice it’s an event, and not a norm of life).

Now I am a firm believer in karma… Remember that when dealing with members of the Guild it can be more rewarding in the end not to try and profit. Everybody needs something from someone else at some point.

When that collection basket comes around throw in a few coins you can afford. Between all of us we will manage to get the bills paid ;)

I am not going to cover all these here and now… I just wanted to say that once we have everybody on TS for our first town hall meeting we will get an idea of who is going to be what. That may be a good time to get members of those specific areas (especially crafting) to discuss trade skills and what not…

Looks like in this game, being a crafter/gatherer won't really effect your fighting skills like some games. (other than the time you spend doing it :)

Without knowing what skills we have as choices....I typically choose to be a armor/weaponsmith type in games. Unless the skill is useless like in some games.

Based on that last info from stractics, looks like we'll be tasked with obtaining, protecting, and delivering materials. I love it.

As I used to say in basic, 6 days and a wake-up. Of course now its, 6 days, a wake-up, 10 hrs at work, 3 hrs "paying attention" to my family, a few hours waiting tensely for a dl to finish, 5 minutes logging in and 3 hrs asleep on my computer chair.

I can't wait.
