/ooc I read some nice, good stories. so i though i gave you mine. Please don't look at the typo's and this is the story from Gravel von Trox in EQ. So there will be some names in it. I have more about his adventures and how it ends. Enjoy :)
The story of Gravel.
I don’t really know much about being a child. I do remember some things about my father, he was strong and big, as he hold me in his arms. And I do recall him wearing some black armor. My mother, I have no memories about her……. But I do recall her scent, she smelled sweet, not like my father who had a different smell, like some disease, or worse…. I remember the sound of my mother crying and the screams of my father, and another cry, the cry from another child like myself. then nothing, darkness and silence. I liked the darkness, because the screaming stopped….. I hated the sound of it.
Where they are know, I do not know, because I was raised by somebody else, they called him a Grave Lord, I respected him as my newly father and family. My newly mother was what they called a Heretic. Both were friendly to me but very strict. No laughs, no fun, just training, studies, and fighting. Until that one day I will never forget, the day I was thought the ways of my Lord….
That morning me father waked me up. He looked me in the eye (I was wearing an Eye patch since my childhood for some strange reason) and said: “Gravel, my son, it is time…..it is time to meet your destiny, it is time to learn what you are and who you must serve” His voice was trembling as he was excited about something.
My mother stood next to her with gloomy eyes. I felt that this would be a very important day for me, I just new.
I dressed my self and followed my father and mother. They walked to some large underground room, filled with other people, all these people were looking at me, and whispering: “Look, a new one to serve the Lord” I had no idea what they were talking about. I was afraid. My father placed his hand on my shoulder as he saw the fear in my eyes. “”Don’t be afraid Gravel’, he said, “this is your destiny, walk thru that gate and you will see a man, he is called Sragg Bloodhearth, he will be your master from now on, farewell young Gravel, we will be proud of you………”
There I stood all alone in this room, darkness around me, strange voices, strange lights and a smell of something decaying here.
Then a voice spook to me: “Gravel, are you ready to meet your destiny?” “Aye” I replied, “I am ready to meet my destiny” “Good” the voice replied, “Let Darkness fill your mind then” As I looked around to where that voice came from, an incredible feeling came into me. Decay, death, disease and plague filled the room, the smell almost made me vomit, but I just stood there, engulfed by darkness.
I low hollow and fearsome voice filled the room:
“GRAVEL! You are chosen to serve me. I am BERTOXXULOUS, bringer of Plague and Disease. I bring slow death to all that oppose us. Are you, Gravel willing to serve my cause?”
Fear and terror slammed into my body, was this a god? And if so were was he??
Then a figure emerged from the darkness, he had a familiar face, yet I had never seen him before. He spoke to me: “Remember your father Gravel, he was one of us! Choose wisely!”
“YES” I said with a trembling voice, “YES, I WILL!”
“Good” the low hollow voice said: “It shall be so then, as from now you are Gravel, Shadow Knight of Bertoxxulous! You will bring Plague and Disease to Norrath. I will give you the powers of myself so that you can use it against all that oppose us”
A surge of power hit my body as I twisted and fell on the floor. I was engulfed my horrible smell at first, but it became a sweet smell after some seconds. The fear vanished; the smell of Plague and Disease was replaced by the smell of sweetness. There was no more fear, no more Darkness. And I saw Him, standing in front of me.
My Lord Bertoxxulous, his marvelous body, his face covered with disease and plague.
Fluids were coming out from various scars from his body.
I kneeled before my Lord, “I will serve you and bring your wish to Norrath, My Lord” I spoke. Bertoxxulous lowered his hand upon my head, “Good, young Shadow Knight. Make me proud of you and go, follow your darkened heart into the world, spread my word! BUT, I warn you, you will encounter many people who will try to subdue you to other thoughts, you will meet other Shadow Knights who will follow you. You will be a master someday”. “I will remember, My Lord”, I spoke. The hand left my head and silence came. A whisper spoke in my head: “Beware of the paladin………” A warning? A clue? A destiny? I didn’t understand it?
Sragg, gave me a sword and a tunic and showed me the way out of the sewers. As he watched me leaving the sewers, he waved and said: “Be careful Gravel, for this world you enter doesn’t understand the beauty of our Lord and the gift he brings to that world, I will be here to train you if you are ready for it, farewell young Gravel”
The bright light of the sun made me close my eyes for a second, while thinking what to do now?
It appeared I was near the gate of a city called Qeynos, a city that would be my hometown forever. At first I was dazed by all the colors and smells of the city, and I felt that changes should be made to all this, more black, darkness, more disease more plague. At that point I was aware that I was the one who would change all that.
I ventured into world called Norrath. I traveled far and long. There were appropriated I brought plague and disease. I ventured dungeons, filled with monsters, slaying them till there screams stopped. One dungeon made an impression on me in particular, Black Burrow. This was the home of Gnolls, a humanoid creature with the face of a dog. It was here that I saw a person, who was in need of help. Being a Shadow Knight, who stands for honor and darkness, I helped him. He thanked me warmly with a smile, and introduced himself as Drachan. There was something in his voice that made me think, a cry I heard when I was young, but I could not be certain for sure. Strange it was, that he also had an eye patch, like my self, but it is a common thing, so I didn’t think of it.
He asked me if I would join him in his travels to other places, as I had no destiny yet I agreed, because it is always better to travel with more people in this dangerous world. As we traveled into Norrath we got to know each other. He told me he was a Paladin, and I was struck by Bertoxxulous touch. The warning I had received many years ago…. Was he the one I was warned for? I did not know, for he seems a nice person, although his vision of the world was not mine. He believed in light and health, and I believed in darkness and plague and disease. We discussed it many times. But we were from 2 other worlds. Still I we wandered in Norrath as companions slaying monsters, he said he was doing this in the name of good, but I really knew he was fooling himself, because bringing death is a way of bringing darkness, and I always smiled when he tried to explain it to me. He also told me many people would consider me Evil, and laughed even louder at him, asking what Evil is? Many times he would tell me about a world where only good would rule, and Evil (as he defined it) would be gone. I felt sorry for Drachan, because it was obvious that he was infected by the words of hid “good” God.
Then the day came to choose a surname, and what a coincidence, on the same day the both of us got it. I choose the name Blacksoul, since my soul is dark and black like the one of all Shadow Knights and that of my Lord Bertoxxulous.
We separated after that day, he wanted to find a mystic sword called Ghoulbane, and I had heard if a powerful Shadow Knight 2 handed sword called a Dark Reaver, so we both said goodbye, vowing to each other to meet again.
When I grew older and older, we met again, and I had made more friends, as so did he. It was funny to see that some of his friends were also my friends.
We all had the same thoughts, about Strength and being with Honor. A thought rose in my mind, why couldn’t we start a guild, a guild that would uphold that thought and would respect it? By some reason, they saw me as their leader, maybe because I was a knight? I still don’t know till this day. But I took on the responsibly as a Guild Master. Then I realized that all that my Lord Bertoxxulous had said to me had come true. It was a prophecy he told me. And the prophecy came true. I wonder what else My Lord has wanted me to do? One thing I know for sure:
Strength and Honor is what all deity’s overrule and what makes us all friends.
