The air was chill with autumn morning, and fresh with the smell of dew. Celvandil felt solemn, as he knew what he must do. It was a sad thing, although his heart knew it was the only right thing to do. A squirrel carefully jumped up to him, chirped once, and bobbed its head, then headed off in another direction.
You can never predict your path. It lays itself out in front of you. You can choose where to walk though. And how.
Picking up his gear, the greenclad wood elf thought about how to explain his going away to the other elders and members of the Taurelie Mirima - the free forest people, as they called themselves. It would pain him to leave his newfound friends, but he knew he must go.
As he entered Mirimár, the city of Jewels (or of the free ones), an early longing came upon Celvandil, as he knew he would miss the forest, the animals, the village that they had made together under the green canopies of Lindetaur.
He greeted the others as he passed them, and bade them join him in the great hall.
When they were all assembled, looking at him anxiously, Celvandil began with a heavy heart to say what he must.
'There is a longing put into my heart, an urgent call for my service and help, which I cannot turn down, or ignore. Far from these lands, beyond the realms of this place where we live and strive together, I must go. I long for my sister, my parents and their love and care, yet this is not why I have to go. Know that I will be away for a long time, many years as our reckoning goes, and that I might not be able to return at all. My sister has put this longing in my heart, by the beckon of my parents, for they are in urgent need of me, and swiftly. I must bring herbs that are not present within their lands, but that I have plenty of here, and gathered already. I do not know exactly what the need is, but my family is safe and healthy, but something is worrying them there, and I know I must be with them. Sad it is that I must leave my dear friends here behind, as you are all dear to me, and I thank you all for your kindness and love towards me, and towards each other, and nature.
May you not miss my presence here overly much and I will be with you in your hearts, in the water in the creaks, in the wind in the trees, and in the warmth of the earth.
As for the practical arrangements, I would wish that Lumiana would overtake the primary leadership of the guild in my absence, as I know she will be a just, kind, and wise caretaker.'
With that he turned to a wood elf druid, standing by one wall, to the side of the others.
She looked a little startled, as Celvandil continued.
'I know you might not see yourself as a leader, but I'm quite certain you have what it takes, and you may be helped by several of our family in your trials, if you wish. I know you will succeed well.'
Celvandil smiled at her, and waited for her answer.
Had a lightning burst out of the sky and struck Lumiana where she stood, it couldn't have surprised her more.
"What? But.. But.. I can't... I've never... I mean... You can't be serious."
She eyed Celvandil for a moment.
"By the Gods, you are serious... I can't believe this!"
Lumiana walked up to him and continued.
"Why do you place this burden upon my shoulders? You know how I cherish my freedom to do whatever I want, to go where-ever I want, whenever I want?"
"And you know that I have done all those things despite the fact that I was the leader. The members of our guild know you too, and they will respect your wishes." Celvandil calmly answered.
"Well, yes, but... I've never been a leader of anything! And even if we have been friends for a long time now, you don't know everything about me! And...and you are not going to change your mind, are you?" Lumiana let out a deep sigh, and looked deep into the other's gentle eyes for a moment. Suddenly she knew that she'd have to accept this new title.
Celvandil smiled, and managed to draw a little smile out of the other druid too.
"You know I would've come with you, but I see now that I can't. If you must go alone, then you must no matter how much I wish I could accompany you."
Without a warning Lumiana caught Celvandil into a strong, warm embrace. A lone tear was running down her cheek, leaving a wet mark at Celvandil's shoulder.
"Farewell, my friend." she whispered to his ear.
OOC - This means that Lumiana is hereafter the head elder of Taurelie Mirima, and that I am for the moment only a supportive elder, being that I won't be available in game much (except maybe sometime around Yule).
