First, Great Guild Web Site!!!

Second, ya i am big into rp... though during the beta we have a job to do rather then just playing around, so you wont see much of it till the game's public release (that is if i even get picked for beta testing :P)

Sounds pretty good. I applaud your role playing efforts. I intend to try RP as much as possible in the game and hope to encourage as many in SoF to do the same.

To that end we have many members within SoF that have created detailed background stories regarding their characters. Some of them you can find on this forum, my personal favourites being Denieru's story and the SoF story (By Bluenose and Delta).

I look forward to RPing with you sometime in Beta (I hope).

Without roleplay there is no game, it´s simply sitting infront of a computer and pressing buttons. I totally agree with all of the above and will also to the best of my ability roleplay ingame and encourage others to do the same.

Btw, if you really like to read a good background story you should check out a thread called the Story of Finora. I belive the author is also SoF, but I seem to have forgotten her name.. what was it again? ^_^

Hey Thal! It's not roleplay, your just a schitzophrenic! ;) No, seriously though, for me roleplay is exceptionally important, without it, all atmosphere and immersion is lost.

Roleplaying does make the game. Since DnL will be so in depth already, why not make it a little deeper yet. With 2 sides battling constantly, you kinda have no choice but to role play.

I totally agree! I truly and deeply hopes that people will actually roleplay when playing this game. Because if not, even with all its wonderful graphics, this game will be nothing. The world, the races, the mythology, it leaves room for great roleplaying possibilities, but in the end, it's all up to the players.

So please, future players of DnL, I beg you, PLEASE make this a good game!

It will all depend on the community whether the game will take a more action MMOG or MMORPG approach. You can have all the content in the world, have the largest bio on your character, and all it takes is a "hey doodz, u gots Moneyz for me Plz?" and it'll throw you off your game in a second. I hope that they will have active in -game GM's that will help drive the story, so the next time one of these posers walks up and asks them for "Phat loot", we can all hear a collective "I'm sorry...what's a...phat?"

I wait for the day that a large group of people can simulate sitting around a BIIIG dinner table and roleplay...all from the comfort of your computer room :P

i agree with you man one of the biggest problems i have with MMORPG's today is the lack of role playing of people in the game and the greif that one gets when you actually do try and roleplay. what i see with this community is that most people do seem to want to role play and that is what also attracts me to this game above others. my friend and i where talking about this today how when we used to play muds things seemed so much more interactive and that is what we see in this game more of those mud qualitys of roleplayability (yes i know thats not a word) so i am definitly looking forward to some roleplaying with you guys

lol... im no hardcore roleplayer but u will definetly NOT hear me running around talking about "what mobs give what XP" and "my lvl is XXX" thats just sucky sucky...

when i roleplay, i just play myself, very simple... My character reacts as i would've (of course there is always some other things that are pre-decided, like how much shit im gonna take from someone until i finally bash his head in (his head will be bashed... just a matter of time :P))

Tru tru. I think it is the same of anyone really, bottom line is, its just an extension of yourself in one way or another, the same boundries and underlying desires are there. :P

The MAIN reason that I'm still coming back to the boards pre-beta is this:

I have been looking for a game for what seems like AGES thatpeople actually take theww time to develop their characters and RP. I will always equate roleplaying to sitting around the kitchen table with my character sheet in front of me. My freinds and I plyed those characters. We used out imagination and it was a blast.
No game on the market has captured the "sense" of roleplaying as I see it. Yet, this community seems to really be focusing on that aspect, which is why I hope, beyond hope, that thins pan out the way they want it to.
Guess we'll see... :yltype:

Yes, I am playing pen&paper RPGs very intensly - whole weekends from Friday afternoon to Monday early in the morning, with nearly no sleep, using music like soundtracks blasting us in an heavy emotional state ... its great. The best way to make mental holiday and free your mind. Only your body is 'out of order' for some days. ;)
I think MMORPGs and for example pen&paper RPGs will never blast you the same way. They use different ways, different sensitve perceptions. Pen&Paper works only in groups of 4 or 5 players. With MMORPGs it's possible to meet thousands of other players ... the simulation of a whole world with less NPCs than players ... wow!
Maybe, some day it's possible to play in MMORPGs nearly the kind of pen&paper ... but only nearly - the way you have to imagine the world in pen&paper RPGs ... with no physical picture (unless you paint some) ... A very thrilling and interesting way to experience a fantastc world

Interesting to see another LARPer here. I'm personally a member of the IFGS (International Fantasy Gaming Society), and I'm familiar with NERO and several other LARPs. I've found that very few of the LARPers that I know enjoy MMORPGs as well; it tends to be a natural step for most of my Pen and Paper gaming friends, however. I was raised on D&D myself, although I have a fondness for a few other systems, especially BESM (Big Eyes, Small Mouth), an anime-style role-playing system. As soon as I have a moment, I'll look at your guildwebsite. For the moment, I need to sleep; my college quarter started about an hour ago. =)

I agree. Although I've never LARPed, I have played and GMed numerous tabletop RPGs. Only once have I ever tried playing a game that was not completely focused around Role Play, and I've come to the conclusion that it is Role Playing that makes the game.
The same is true of any computer game, whether it be offline, multiplayer, or MMO. If I can't get into the character and the world, there's just no point in playing.

I agree with Varsis, if theres no immersion then there is no real reason to play the game

Yea. True. I agree with almost everything that's been said.

Now can we please start roleplaying and let this thread die? :P

I do agree with your post.
Roleplaying is my favorite part in a game, is what I am always searching for...
An unique community with never ending creativity, a game without that is just a place you will get tired of it and actually move on pretty fast.

I have played a -game- for 5 years, which I dedicated myself to as a player and as a "subGM", I did as much as I could to provide to that community enterteiment.
Saddly the game didnt gave us (Guilds, Clans, Special Characters) support to grow with a stronger roleplaying. Other then that they replaced quality with numbers.
After many years of desappointment I decided was time to move on, to give a chance to new games.

And here I am looking forward to be a big roleplayer in DnL.
