Heres the questions that were asked and the answers..
while falcon answered the questions 4 devs were there
For those who werent there ;)
Q.<Rift>Will 56Kers and slower internet connections be able to play as smooth or at least nearly as smooth as broadband. How bad will it be?
A.<Falco> The minimum requirement is 56K today. ISDN will work as well.
Q.<Stilgar> Have you made the engine yourself or licenced one?
A.<Falco> It's a proprietary engine called Mafate. And Dark and Light is our first game which takes the benefit of it
Q.<Rift>Will there be transporters between towns? ie. ride birds? and will there be some form of a scroll/spell to teleport you back to your hometown?
A.<Falco> Absolutely, yes. But not only this. Because the world is very big, we will help each player to find its community back.
Q.<monpseudoamoa>What is your past experience in game industry and mmorpg development ?
A.<Falco>Our experience is made of both IT and video game experts. The oldest one is 15 years old in video games. (alone in the dark(offline) and some raceing games)
Q.<Rift>Will there be a ranking system for players and/or guilds?
A,<Falco> Of course, their will be a hall of Fame in some disciplines such as the best hunter, the best explorer, etc... wich will be displayed in villages. On the other hand players will be able to find out who is currently "Wanted", quests and the best traides to do for instance.
Q.<Krogoth> Can you tell us about the guild system, how will it work ? Will Dark be able to share a guild with Light ?
A.<Falco>So about the guild concern, we cannot share guild.
Q.<Rift>Will clans/indivuals be able to get houses in the dark or light main kingdoms?
A.<Falco>Yes... The world is big enough for everyone to get its own home sweet home.... But be careful about vilians and the opposite faction.
Q.<eg0> Will there be hired gamemasters to develope interactive background story to the world of dark and light. Also will the players be able to affect to the story? Most imporant thing is that how will the roleplaying elements handled?
A.<Falco>We prefer to have gamemasters instead of "computered" stories. Anyway you will also have to solve quests. The player will not affect the story directly. In fact, each player will bring something to its faction thanks to its interaction. He will not affect the story but History! Roleplaying elements are handled by the interaction available between races, classes, their skills and the players capabilities to role play.
Q.<eg0> What is required or minimum requirements?
A.<Falco> The beta is requiering a Geforce 3 minimum with a 1Ghrz processor. This only to get the same screen shot quality that you can look at on our web site.
Q.<Rift>How much detail will DnL go into? i.e. bugs/grass/tress sway in wind
A.<Falco>Today the engine is capable to render small Autonomous Life Forms such as animals like bugs, spiders, and vegetation. More than that, you'll get weather effects and forests like you never seen before.
Q.<monpseudoamoa> Will Realms have natural frontiers (mountains, river)?
A.<Falco>Kingdoms are frontiered by natural geographic elements. Fortification are also there to help to delimitate zones
Q.<dys> will there be NPC that will be either Dark or Light and that we would be able to asign to protect a town when we are not conected?
A.<Falco> NPC's will be hired by the city lord. A management skill is required to be able to command the NPC while offline. And much more... We will update our website soon for this matter
Q.<Rift> Whats to stop players from just camping out monster spawn points?
A.<Falco>There are no spawn points but large spawn areas. Monsters AI will help in this matter. Monsters have a sort of evolutive memory system to avoid continuous same spawn points.
Q. <Rift> Can Dark people attack Dark people?
A.<Falco> Definitly not! Dark are not so evil, and there are sufficiently Light to attack ;-) But friendly/rude duel can be done...
Q.<dys> will there be any kind of atmospheric flight? (like riding a dragon)
A.<Falco>Yep! Not only dragon! Just a hint: catapults. Do you guys would like to experience that sort of flight?
Q.<dys> can you tell us more about the communication system? since community is important in all mmorpgs, are you going to offer some new feature never seen before in the communication system to attract players?
A.<Falco> Yes, but, sorry about that, because they have never been seen at this time, we cannot talk about that right now. I think you guys will understand. Be sure that we work hard on it because we are aware of the size of the world. Community is the most important thing in our concept. Each player has to have the ability to stay in contact with his friend/guild/faction.
Q.<Stilgar> how big is the world compared to daoc?
A.<Falco> Much much more. The first release of the game will give you a 40000Km2 area to play. We cannot excactly compare to DAOC because we don't know the exact size of it. In DnL, when you'll be at the top of a mountain, you'll be able to see the real horizon, with no fog clipping! Look at the web site for our latest work in progress screen shots!
Q.<Rift>Can we build things like caves and sewers? or underground buildings?
A.<Falco>Not for the beta version. Keep in touch on that! We listen carefuly to the community.
Thats it.. i still had 11 more questions.. but it was 1/2 a hour after we were suposed to end.....
