When I played EQ I had a character on the Euro server (AB?), since I played a lot with a Swedish friend. After a while i noticed that a lot of French players would invariably speak French while in multi-national groups, which is not only annoying (eg getting me killed), but also bad manners. It's not like they didn't speak English, they just spoke French to each other and excluded everyone else. I mentioned it to a few other players and they had all noticed the same thing, and several of them went so far as to refuse to group with French players for that reason alone. Most of the Euros I played with spoke their own language at times, but not habitually, and they were happy to explain things to those of us that didn't understand. I learned a few phrases of Swedish and German, but French players were just...different.
it's not like I'm going to learn another languge just for playing online games, and if I did it would be Spanish anyway (a much more useful language).
So what experiences have other people here had? I signed up for another French mmog beta recently (Ryzom) so I'm wondering if there's likely to be a language barrier in beta.
