View Full Version : Southern Cross - Seeking Aussies and Kiwis

Well after a long hiatus I am back. Southern Cross was the 2nd or 3rd guild registered here at DarkandLight.net - way back on 24th November 2002. Boy, that seems like a long time ago.
I had much enthusiasm for DnL back then, and let me assure you it has not diminished. I was distracted by many of the MMO's in live production, some good, some very bad. In the meantime I am running a guild on DAOC, forming a RP Undead guild for World of Warcraft, and of course, getting a gauge of interest in DnL for Australians and Kiwis who may be in beta or intend on playing when it goes live.
Why a guild for Aussies and Kiwis? No reason other than find a group of friends to play with in a common timezone. Being GMT-8 through to GM-12 makes it often a lonely experience to play a MMO if you are on a server predominately populated by players in Europe and North America.
Of course, that does not mean we are wanting to exlude non-Aussies or Kiwis - all are welcome!
SO THE GOOD NEWS! - Well DnL has finally entered beta with about 500 or so people currently stress testing. I'm sure the full beta is not far away, and that DnL may go live later this year (fingers crossed).
So this is a call to Aussies and Kiwis (and anyone else for that matter) who is interested in forming a guild to play together. One without too many rules, politics or structure until we get that sorted out in-game. (I've seen too many forum-based guilds which seem to work amazingly well and are uber-organised - complete fall apart once they go online).
Please post here, and I will monitor daily reply.

Hi Koorbaes,
I'm an Aussie (Brisane based) looking forward to the release of the game. I might be interested in joining a clan that is populated by mature organised people. I am currently with another aussie clan (TOG) for other games but if there aren't going to be many of them playing Dark & Light I'll be happy to consider yours. Either way it would be nice to get to know other aussie players.

I would not mind considering this guild, as my fiancee is Australian and I am moving to Australia eventually, and she is the one who pointed me in the direction of this game.
My playing time is flexible, so there are no problems in that regard. Hopefully we will get into the beta, I have a pretty capable system and she just needs to upgrade a little to get to about the same level.

Sounds like a plan. Count me in.
Oh, and that bloke with the role-player comment...yeah right.
Aussie here too. Been following DnL for a while but as usual lurk far more then post.
At any rate based out of Perth and an avid roleplayer. Have been in roleplaying in quite a few aussie based guilds. Main reason being don't have to put up with sweeping generalizations from a vocal minority and it seems that the majority of people from our lil corner of the world are quite tolerant.
Did I mention that empty vessels make the most sound? Probably not...
Will keep in touch via this thread Koorbaes and direct our local based guild of roleplayers to do the same.

I'm interested.
I live in Adelaide and have been playing MMOs for a few years now. Mostly EQ1. I'm not overly bothered if we play dark or light and i'm probably going to play a ranger or necromancer.

No, I don't think you did mention it...
Lucky you are wrong :P
In all seriousness. Playing in a low volume time zone is quite difficult. Pick up groups are harder to get and people from other time zones that happen to be on often can't play long or aren't intersted in serious adventuring because they don't expect to be on. Also many non Aussie/NZ people on during our peak time have changing shifts and thus arn't on regularly.
Hence Aussies have slowly been getting more and more organised with regards to time zone based guilds.
Esprit de corps!

I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand why aussies try band together before the game comes out. It's something we all learnt from a lot old mmo's like Eq where you realised too late (few hundred hours) all aussies are spread thinly and extremely inconveniently between the 25+ servers.
Do they realise our peak time is 4AM in USA which means it's the most underpopulated time zone?
There is usually nothing to stop any other player from another country joining up.

I would really like to believe that DnL is the one which truely gives satisfaction. So much has been Hyped before from contenders to the crown. I sincerely so hope so.
My feelings are open. The graphics look great....But the rest will require the proof of experincing the release. Good luck DnL, it's in your hands.

Hi Guys,
I'm an Aussie - currently playing Guild Wars. Formely played Eve, SWG and UO - but ran out of money for P2P games (plus they all got old).
I love Guild Wars at the moment, but it's not a MMORPG, so if D&L shows itself to live up to it's promises (and comes out before Darkfall, which it seems it will), then I may join up.
If so, I'd be looking for an Aussie Guild, so for now - HI!

Aussie here aswell; Brisbane.
Keen to get in an aussie-guild.
Also, I'm interested in finding others who have a bit of a trade-skill bend.
Luv my PvP but I do enjoy it more when i've got better gear ;)
I prefer the light side.
Like others I'm kinda waiting to see how the stress test goes... but it'd have to be a complete disaster for me not to be coming over to DnL :D

I'm from Adelaide. Currently playing WoW, and looking into D&L. I'm leaning heavily towards dark, but I know the importance of an Aussie guild (60 shaman LFG ANYTHING), so I'll probably join no matter the alignment.
Edit to add that I'm currently not playing beta, but will likely play this november...thing.

I love the idea of an Aussie guild.
Count me in, I find with WoW that when it first started, myself and my friends picked the wrong server, and during our playtimes there are not very many people on, which to say the least is very frustrating.

I'm a Kiwi. Considering some kind of exploration class (light ranger mabye).
I normally end up playing Healer cause I'm good at it, but starting to get bored of this class I think.
I currently play WoW on Shadowsong / Maelstrom and have a 60, 52, 38, 31, 28,...
What type of guild are you guys hoping to join/create?
I'm all for a Guild that's out to have fun in PvE, PvP, RP etc and not act like elitist jerks, while at the same time not being total noobs...
And most importantly, In MY Timezone!

I'm an Aussie from Melbourne, currently playing EQ2 on Najena looking to play this too, would love to join an Aussie guild, like I have in EQ2. Still not really sure what class i'd like to play probably make a few.
I'm signed up for beta, so guess I'm waiting for that or live :)
i am interested too. Been watching with great interest for a long time now. Was thinking of just trying to play solo... but i guess a guild looks like it is the only way to go.

Hi, Kiwi here, this guild looks like a good place to hitch up with others in the same timezone. My preferred character is Dark, maybe a Shadow Knight but hey, as people say on the forums, Dark does not necessarily mean Evil and Light does not necessarily mean Good. If crafting system if interesting I quite like that side of mmorpgs as well.

Hey I am fron the Philippines (but am German), the time zone here is GMT +8 (like Hong Kong). You guys are probably the closest timezone to mine in this game.
I used to play Chronus, Knight Online, RYL, Face of Mankind
Was in a top clan in Knight Online and very high ranked in Face of Mankind so I have experience in politics and stuff like that.
I will test the game out once its released, hopefully in the next view days and then decide if I will join you guys.
I really hope that you will try to gain allies etc. I can help you with that.

I purchased a Pioneer pack and will be playing SoG.
I think we need to investigate what the status of the guild name is and I will be contacting Koorbaes to see what information they have, I think the name Southern Cross is a fabulous one and one we can rally beneath.
The light/dark issue is a bit of problem with the main forums saying that Dark is out numbering light 65/35 (that's if you can believe 1/10th of what is posted in there). If Southern Cross gets underway we will probably also need a sister guild on the other side so we can cater for all.
I'll report on what comes back if Koorbaes does not come back himself

Well the bad news is that I tried emailing from the current guild page to the old owner but the email returned with no such recipient. I then PM'd the mods to ask what the next steps were. They haven't deigned to reply as yet.
So with the reopening of the profiles I took a look through the list of guilds and found that Southern Coss was no longer registered just as was said on the old guild page.
As there's no response from anywhere I have taken it on myself to re-register Southern Cross.
While we will not have 100% consensus on what alignment Southern Cross will be, I would suggest we also register something like Cross Of The South (name suggestion only) to play on the other side. In SoG I think we will find that people will play both sides to get a "feel" of what it is all about.

Hi guys
I live in perth western australia and I'm looking for a good guild to join so if you have room for me i would love to join you.
Hey all,
Sent a thingo for the guild in forums, and in game too. In Sydney atm.
Just bought a pre-launch account to DnL and get to run about on my sad little griffen in SoG, though he does get to fly in its own way, still not a fancy dragon but.
Hope to get accepted and see people online  . Groks Half troll Warrior (Light).
{Grok was already taken in game so hope theres no crosswire crayzeness}.
Will probably make same kind of toon in DnL too. Just want to run in and hit stuff hard hehe.
