the thing that has always bothed me about MMORPGs, is how demanding they are on you. What i mean by this is, you have to play a set number of hours per day so as only to keep up with the rest of your group, generation, game.
my question is, will i be able to pick this game up whenever i'm in the mood to, evan after a long period of time, and still be able to achieve somthing someone else has, without having to spend so much time just trying to keep up with them.

I dont want to have to play a game where you are required to put in the hours, like Legend Of Mir, and DAoC.

i hate to compare this another genre totaly different, but
do you mean a game that requires skills that you have and not simulation skills that you have to build up over time?

liek with first person shooters its hand eye co ordination with tactics but onlien rpgs its usualy skills you need to keep doing for hours and hours on end to get high?

personaly i liek both, but the person that sits at hoem with no job and tons of free time woudl have more tiem to build a charactor than the average person who has a job or school would have an advantage (why lets lazy peopel have an advantage) in the onlien rpg arena, i only said that coz it happend to me whiel i was at uni a girl i knew with no job got more skills than me :(

I'm talking about the social and peer pressure. in other games it can be too demanding, and will make you play all the time.

When DAoC came out, i had a friend, who stopped going to school, just to keep up with his group of friends. (He did manage to become the 2nd person to become lvl 50 tho).

Storm, I know wotcha mean. DAoC was way too addictive AND you HAD to be online hours a'day to keep up with the rest of the "guys".

In DnL however, there's 2 types of EXP; Social and Fighting exp. AND there's the possibility to "convert" (or however I should put it) your character into a NCP who can trade and do similar stuff for you, when you are NOT online, AND doing this gains you Social Exp, therefore your social level increases (I dunno how FXP and SXP are corresponding tho), but at least the amount of time you "HAVE TO" spend should be decreased.

It should be remembered, however, that MMORPGs are ALWAYS time-eating games, as it is constantly evolving, and there's not really any other way to "stay tuned" with the rest of the world...

If you want a game to play every once in a while when you feel like it, buy Baldurs Gate or something similar ;)

Storm i know what your talking about, i dont always got time, i sure has hecll otn make time to play, i play when i got free time. BUt the game needs to be long and in depth and take many an hour to keep people interested, so there not like hey its been one week im hieghest lvl there is not much else for me to do.

It is a known fact that MMORPGS takes up more of your free time than other games and thats mainly because its in constant evolution and therefore there is always something else to do that you havent yet done !

As for gaining SXP while in NPC mode i dont think thats true , The devs havent yet specified exactly what could u do while in NPC mode but i dont think they ll make you earn Xp in any sort of way! Sorry to disappoint you :(

well, whatever they decide, i just hope that there is no demand for me to play. i want to play when i want, and not because i need to.

Yea, especially when you're in a guild or clan and you're expected to meet a "quota" or something about what level you reach, how much $ you make, etc. I like being able to play a game at my own pace, and not have to be in love with the game in order to do well.

well it's like any game. You can play when ever you want but to keep up you need to have enough free time. Plus there is skill involved here. Many people, to gain manufacturing experience will keep making a short bow and as time goes on you gain less and less exp for it and spend hours and hours. Where as there are the few that will raise there maufacturing exp to a level and manufature a long bow to raise higher. So it's all a matter or what your willing to risk be it time or materials.

yes, it may be true that the more time you spen on the game, the more you will achieve.
but, what i am saying is i dont want to feel like i'm required to play the game for set times ect.
i want to pck up the game, play it and have fun. progress at my own rate.
what i dont want to do is pick up the game, and think "crap..i havn't played in a while, i'll have to catch up by leveling extra hard"

obviously lowere levels aint much use to high levels, and high levels go places too hard for low levels, BUT the gap between this should be HUGE. so you could be maybe a week behind everyone else, yet still be able to have as much fun without the demand to ccatch up.

i dont know if im making sence anymore, it's late, im tired, and ill.
G'night ;)

Well if the game is well built you should be able to have funat whatever level and you say that you have a lot of pressure , to catch up and follow the rest of the group but the only pressure you hae is the one that you put on yourself . If your only goal is to have fun than dont bother about Following other people'srythm and live at your pace....

Oh and guilds are here to make the link between high levels and lower levels so that they can learn where is the best to earn exp while having fun or which quest is most fun and rewarding item wise , not necessarily exp . High levels arent here to tease you cos you re a low level. On the other end it s a good time to respect high levels because you know they took some time to achieve it ..

Thats the good thing about a good guild , communication within levels .

I am really into that competitive mode and get really addicted but have other time commitments. So yeah I find that really frustrating when someone can sit home all day and be really high level. And the higher level the more you can actually do in the game - being lower restricts you to a degree. I do have high hopes that this game will be different...
