Festivals!

What if like every month there is a festival in the biggest cities in both the dark and light sides? Where there is merchants from all over the world who sells exotic items and such. And entertainers, singers and stuff. That would really lift the RPG-feeling. And it would be a great time to get to know other players.
There could also be an giant auction where players enlist their hard earned special items that goes out for bidding?

NPCs holding silent auctions at these events would be interesting.

Player interfaces with NPC auctioner and hands over item to be bidded upon.

He is asked what the minimum price for item would be by NPC.

Each item remains with NPC for a set time and durring that window of time other players can interact with NPC to view items up for bid and make their bid.

After the said time the player or a colored chat text scrolls across messege box indicating which player recieved the item and name of item type.

At that time it is placed in players item list and currency removed. If player does not have the currency he stated in a bank or on self at that time, the item is then given to the next inline with highest bid.

This can happen even if player is not online. he will still have to place the bid online at appropriate vendor, but as long as he has the amount of currency in his bank he can still be awarded the bid.

Well that comes to us players.. Nearly everything is possible we deside to do. I myself like this idea very much and give my support to it.. maybe there could be games like riding a Dodo *smiles*

It appears that we are agreeing on more and more things, Catz. I too, find this to be a wonderful idea. It opens up a great many possibilities. I wouldn't do it once a month, though. Maybe once every 2 or 3 months. Of course, it would be very beneficial in the beginning. Ah, what the heck. Every day!

Hey! A festival! Dancing, eating, drinking, music, colour, socialising. I don't think I can do that everyday - I need at least one day to recover. How about every 2nd day?

I love the idea of a festival say once a month. It is possible to get too much of a good thing. And if you keep the event rare then the demand would be high and many people would show up. But if it happens every day or week then it would become a regular event that would not bring in the crowds. Think about it what makes the holidays so much fun. They are a break from the normal routine of life. Just my dollar two ninety-eight.

It would also promote roleplaying.

That is a great idea. I remember the old days in UO, there was never anything truely special like that, instead a bunch of idiots running around screaming n00b. This would seriously increase roleplaying and make the world that much more fun. And there should be certain festivals each season in the game. Like a Summer, Autumn etc. festival, so it even keeps in game time and not real time. That would be awesome.

Festival sounds like a good idea, one question: would the dark and light be at the same festival or would they have seperate festivals?

I would think there would be different festivals for dark and light. That's not to say that only dark or light would attend their own festivals, though. Perhaps one kingdom each month could hold a festival and everyone who wished to attend could migrate to that kingdom. Assuming they were permitted by the faction who currently held that particular kingdom. Geez, I'm just rambling now. I like the idea of tournaments too. Jousting and swordplay maybe even a rousing game of pin the tail on the dodo. ;) Do they even have tails???

It is my belief that any one could come to the festivals. If allowed by the controller of the hometown. I think I remember reading in the FAQ or something that you have to do business (trades) with the opposite faction to complete some of the quests.

Even if it's not implemented in the game, it will always be not really difficult to drive such an event by players, but would be great if, like it's mentionned in this topic, to have special NPC (Jarik post)
