Greetings to you all. As you can see, Im new here. :hallucine:
This game has very interesting engine and eviroments. Im just troubled about the ability to make unique and interesting places. Not just mountains with trees ((About trees = There should also be VERY big trees in the largest forests that their big branches would form the ceilin where rays of light would penetrates trough the breaches.
I haven't seen yet this engine true power and I believe that It will provide outstanding places for us to Adventure, but I just want you to look at those pictures on the end of my post and Imagine yourself and your friends to Venture trough these Amazing places (similar places could maybe be implemented in the future Mmorpgs DnL? and of course there is always penalty in the graphics compared to real art, but hardware keeps pushing up and so are the games...)
"but that is just my.. or Our Dream (i guess) *teehee*"
About the combat system I just have to say that my favorite one is the one in Neverwinter Nights. It is quite same like Daoc or Eq.. etc, but it has more attack animations than those games and you can see parrying, bolcking with shield, evading incoming hits, letting your plate mail take the blow "clang!" etc... And also the characters in melee are constantly moving so It doesnt look so dull when they are fighting (like in those games they just tend to sit in the same spot and just hack eachother alternately ("hack! ouch!, hack! ouch!)
Also the melee skills are not so simple, they bring tactical depth in the battle. Like disarm or knockdown... Power attack etc..
"pleace Dev's of DnL don't make the melee look like that ("hack! ouch!, hack! ouch, Hack! ouch!)... Make us drool and jump out of the windows! (easy for me to say)
The feeling of the character ,when you are moving it is very important. If it is too clumsy the whole feeling is gone for most of the players. I mean like in Asherons call 2 the movement was so bad for me that one try was enough. If it is too rubberish or bristly, you just don't enjoy it and the whole game is ruined. Animations should co- operate with controlling perfectly. Camera is also very very important! (but I think that you got my point *heh*)
And for the sounds and music... :P
In my opinion music should be Orchestrated fantasy music like in baldurs gate's, IWD etc
If you are going to implement some Mid beepings... please do not put any music in it. heh. (maybe that is also just a matter of resources"money") for me music is 30% of the game.
The variety of Sounds effects and voice's should be large. I mean just the battlesounds need very many sound effects, like weapons hitting metal armor, chain armor, flesh, shield block, weapon block & parry, bow sounds. And also general sounds "marching in full plate" (clang clang clang). :heartpump: :o
Spells need major scale of sounds too, e.g. Necromantic spells cast eerie and dark sounds, when Divine magic is choiring and mighty etc..
One of the top things in my list is Voice chat a'la tribes or NWN where you just hit the key combinations for different sayings (you can hear them, not just text):
F,W,W = Help! could someone assist me, please! "troubled voice in battle"!
F,W,D = My bleeding seems to be not stopping, please heal me.... "almost dead voice"
for more quicker and less space taking view: Stop, Follow me, Look here, I've found something!, I see our foes!, Everyone get in your positions!, Charge!, Do not anger me, lest you incur my wrath!, Raaargh!!! (DAMN that add's so much feeling to the game)
You just need bunch of good voice actors ^_^ !!
I could babble much much more, but I think this is enough for my first post. Cheers ;)
