Crocodile Hunter defied the odds...

Steve Irwin wasn't killed by a crocodile is the good news. The bad news is that a stingray killed him though.

Well, he was a bit mad, but getting killed by a stingray is damn unlucky.

Yes he was very unlucky. Still as experienced as he was he didnt pay enough attention for his safety.

I certainly disagree. That guy had the very seldom talent of making things he did for real appear very mad, while he knew exactly what he did.

To me he was a true professional and he did what he did to transport a message and reach groups that are harder to address these days, where kids don't have a chance to experience nature for once in their lives any more.

Sure, the means where unconventional, but who is still watching stuff like that otherwise? Doing stuff like that always is bearing a rest of risk, and that's what got him in the end. - As Kagda already said: How high is the likelyhood of that sting to eventually penetrate exactly the heart? - If you read the fuill article, it's clear that for any other sort of an accident, where the typical risk (i.e. the venom of the stingray) would ahve been the problem, preconditions had been taken...that's nothing but a real bad luck, - and that could hit anybody, every day.
Sure, locking up yourself in some comfy cabinet is actually reducing risk, but for the most, it wouldn't really be worth living, would it?
Damn, I'm riding horses...one good kick of a hind leg would be enough, and I'm a father of 3...how mad (not even talking about skydiving). Still, my kids wouldn't want to have me any different in that aspect (in many others I bet they would ), of that I'm sure.

There's risks you take, some for a limited time, some for live. There's risks you never take or you get rid of when you find out you got new responsibilites. But there certainly is more to responsibilty than just making sure to keep yourself alive under all circumstances.

There is only 3 deaths by stingrays on record in Queenskland and only 17 world wide.
