It is in beta testing stages and ONLY those chosen to be beta testers are able to download and TEST the game. I repeat, you CANNOT play DnL right now.

Features
Some general features of the game.

The Game and Community Forums
General Board - This is the English General board for Dark and Light. Topics here should generally deal with DnL the game. Threads such as "hello" threads should not be posted here. If it has nothing to do with the technical aspects of the game itself, it does not belong here.

Community - The Community Forum is a more casual forum. Basically anything that doesn't relate to the General Board should be here. Feel free to post just about any topic that does not violate forum rules.

SO, if you post a new thread, try make sure it is in the correct forum, otherwise it will most likely be moved to the correct forum, sometimes without notice.

ALSO, if you feel the need to rant about your overwhelming excitement for this game (yes, we're not full of ourselves, we do get those posts quite frequently), please do it in the Community Forums. Otherwise your thread will be moved anyway. Thanks!

Forum Rules
Be sure to read through the general forum rules before posting. Sig size is also mentioned in this link.

Spamming
Spamming is against forum rules, as stated above. Double Posting is classified as posting two replies in a row in the same thread (mirror posts or otherwise), this is also not allowed here. It's not strictly enforced, but just don't do it. However, Triple and Quadruple posting is a bannable offense if repeatedly done after being warned by a Moderator. If you accidently double post, use the edit button to delete it.

The EDIT Button

In all its glory. If you need to edit a reply, do not double post, there is an Edit button below every post. Also, if you want to delete a post of yours, there is a box labeled Delete Options at the top of the edit screen in which you can do so.

Search Function
This handy feature is at your disposal for forum searches. Nearly every topic imaginable has been discussed at least once before on these forums, so searching can be helpful if you have a question that is not anwered in the FAQs or Dev Chats. One caution, do not bump (reply to) old threads. If you feel the topic requires more discussion, start a new thread.

Beta Test

The beta testing has started. The online stability testing began on the 19th of November, 2003. DnL is currently in closed stages of beta testing.

Beta Client / Download
The Beta client CANNOT be downloaded until you get chosen for beta testing, so don't bother looking around for a download because you won't find it.

Beta Sign-up / Notification
In order to sign up for beta selection, you need to fill out your Beta Profile. The link is in the left menu.

System Requirements (for beta)
Fill out the Beta Profile honestly.
-The system requirements for the first beta are (at the moment):
1. 1.5 to 1.8+ GHz processor
2. 512+ MB RAM
3. Higher-end video card (GeForce or Radeon)
-These requirements will go down and spread farther out as the stages progress.

Non-Disclosure Agreement
For those of you new to actual beta testing, you must be at least 18 years of age to participate in the beta test. This is due to the legal restraints imposed by the NDA. An NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) is a legal agreement you as a tester have to sign in order to participate in the beta test, and by signing it you agree not to disclose any information about your status as a tester or anything to do with the game itself, unless given permission by the devs. On the more serious note, an NDA is in place so incase you do something to seriously damage the game and/or it's development, the developers have a right to press charges against you. ;) Sounds fun 'eh?

General Dark and Light Information

Platforms
Dark and Light will only be available on a Windows OS. There have been no plans for a Mac or Linux release.

Single Server
The game will be situated on one server, not multiple servers. DnL is taking advatage of new server clustering technology to make this happen. Again, there is only 1 server in DnL which will support, in theory, an infinitely expandable number of players and land.

Dark = Evil? Light = Good?
Dark and Light is not necessarily a struggle between good and evil. In other words, Light does not necessarily mean Good, and Dark does not necessarily mean Evil. You can play either side being good or evil.

Where can I find info on Classes?
There has been NO detailed information released regarding Classes/Professions in DnL, just Races so far. However what info has been released has been compiled and is available Here

Monthly Fees
The final release of Dark and Light WILL cost money; stuff this good doesn't come free. The projected monthly fee is around 10-15 USD, 8-13 Euro.

Additional Game Information / Developer Chats
There have been a large number of Developer Chats and Interviews done through websites and the Dark and Light IRC channel. A few places have collections of these logs. Searching through these logs is highly recommended if you have a question about DnL. Most of what the community knows about DnL is from these logs.

The IRC Dev Chat Logs (via Al-Drifa's Library) can be found on the Soldiers of Fortune guildsite. The link should take you directly to them.

The kind people of Ascentionis Potentiae have compiled a database of (NOTE- link may not link to intended article, as host is having troubles) All Information concerning Dark and Light, separated into 21 different categories. DnL Chat
Dark and Light does have a channel on IRC. It is #darkandlight, on the irc.ircube.org server. Stop by and chat with all the crazy people. You can access this chat via this website, or using a client such as mIRC. If the chat box on this site does not load, you may need to download Java, or a newer version of it.

Downloading DnL
You will be able to download the full client once it is released. Please read This Article for more information on how DnL plans to be released.
